The People's National Pageantry System is a groundbreaking initiative founded by two passionate visionaries—Derland and Dr. Kareem—both seasoned businessmen with a passion for LBGTQIA pageantry. These visionaries both have long been involved with the Mr. & Miss Black Universe (MBU) competition, most recently as official preliminary promoters where they experienced the transformative power of pageantry firsthand. Their time within the MBU system deepened their belief that pageantry can be a powerful tool for self-expression, inclusion, and the celebration of diverse identities.

In 2024, Derland and Dr. Kareem decided to create something even more inclusive and expansive. Their idea was simple yet profound: to build a national platform where individuals can be their authentic selves—without judgment or barriers—while still competing in a spirited pageantry tradition. They aim to offer a stage that celebrates not only beauty and talent, but also the unique stories, struggles, and triumphs of contestants.

From the start, The People’s National prioritizes inclusivity. It is designed to be a space for people of all races, ethnicities, body types, gender expressions, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The system embraces high fashion categories, expanding beyond traditional norms to celebrate various talents, leadership, and community service. It welcomes all participants, regardless of background, and encourages each contestant to fully express who they are, allowing them to compete without feeling pressured to conform to outdated standards.
